Tena koutou katoa (hello everybody),
I have been in the tumuaki (principal) role for two years now and there have been many positive changes at Miller Avenue School. We have a very progressive board who have the best interests of the tamariki (children) at the centre of everything we do and every decision we make, just as I do.
I am passionate about collaborating with the school community (kaiako/teachers and kaiāwhina/support staff) to ensure that we provide whānaungatanga (the glue that holds relationships together in our school community) for our tamariki. You can't have a learner-centred teaching environment without positive and strong relationships.
In a learner-centred teaching environment, people feeling connected and identify with the group. They stick together. Shared expectations mean that they celebrate diverse abilities and individual excellence. This is what we have been doing so well since June 2022. The teachers are enthusiastic and willing to grow and learn to provide interesting and fun learning for our ākonga (learners).
I have come here with a wealth of knowledge and experience from being a senior leader in a large primary school in South Auckland for 18 years. My family and I are very happy to settle in the beautiful town of Paeroa. I have been very blessed with the aroha (love) and awhi (support) that I have received from everyone in the Miller Ave School community. I look forward to welcoming you to our school, even if you just want to pop in for a visit - EVERYONE is welcome!
Nga mihi nui
